Bringing AI Overviews to MENA, and in Arabic globally

At I/O, we announced the expansion of AI Overviews in Google Search, bringing this feature to the Middle East and North Africa for the first time. This global rollout also includes support for new languages, such as Arabic and Turkish.
AI Overviews use Gemini model’s multi-step reasoning capabilities, to provide key information about a topic or question, with links to dig deeper and learn more on the web. This feature helps people get to the gist of a complicated topic or question more quickly, while also providing a jumping off point to explore links to learn more.
AI Overviews in Google Search was launched in the US last year, and was later expanded to many countries around the world. Google’s insights reveal that people experiencing AI Overviews are using Search more than ever, and are more satisfied with their results – creating new opportunities to discover new websites, and in turn opening up new opportunities to connect with publishers, businesses and creators. Similar to the original Search experience, ads will continue to appear in dedicated slots, above and below the AI Overviews.

Questions may include formats such as ‘How’, ‘why’ or comparisons between topics or items. The AI Overviews will show up in Search results when Google’s Search systems determine that generative AI can be especially helpful.
AI Overviews are rooted into Google’s core safety and policy protections, ensuring a good experience for users. The feature is now broadly available to all users in the MENA region and globally in Arabic, accessible on both mobile and desktop devices.
