I’ve called the UAE home for a little over 4 months now and I’ve been most excited about experiencing my first Ramadan in a Muslim-majority country in 16 years. We all know that Ramadan traditions vary across countries & regions, but so does the media & entertainment scene. Here in MENA, content, especially on YouTube, is a big part of the social experience.

Some of the most iconic Ramadan series were a blend of creativity, originality and storylines that delight, amounting to a truly unique experience. And, for all of those looking for a dose of nostalgia, you can find an abundance of shows like Saudi Arabia’s Tash ma Tash, Egypt’s Boogi w Tamtam and even Syria’s Bab Al Hara.

Increasingly, YouTube’s content has gone beyond nostalgia to full blown productions that entertain, delight and take viewers on a journey that is on par with blockbuster productions.

Here’s what I am looking forward to the most on YouTube:

  • Bo3omar is bringing back his entertaining Fawazeer (riddle) series with a star-studded guest list.
  • Culinary enthusiasts can look forward to Abir's Kitchen, offering accessible Middle Eastern recipes with her signature flair and captivating visuals.

  • Faris will be exploring unique Ramadan experiences, such as breaking fast in unexpected locales and Ibrahim will be exploring 100 years of Ramadan breakfasts from every Arab country.
  • The second season of Thamanyah’s “Tha Gal”will delve into the captivating world of poetry with renowned critic Khaled Aoun and “Wayn Tekasht “will take viewers on a thrilling journey across Saudi Arabia.

  • Hadeel Marei & Maha Jafaar will be hosting Ramadan themed episodes of their podcast “Podcast w Nos” throughout the month. Expect relatable content and of course, lots of laughs.
  • Clacket Media will be bringing back Syrian drama “Taht Al-Ard” and for those looking for a taste of Moroccan drama, Morocco’s 2MTV’s channel will have a range of series including Al Dam Almachrouk

These are just some of the great pieces of content you can catch on YouTube this month. YouTube is the only place where you can be a part of a universe of content that's reshaping culture and making cultural moments even bigger.

So, whether you’re watching & engaging on TV, laptop or mobile, happy viewing and Ramadan Kareem to all!
