Results About You is now available in South Africa
Have you ever searched for your name to see how you show up online? You’re not alone. To give you greater peace of mind about your online footprint, we’re rolling out the new “Results about you” tool in South Africa.
The new tool will help users stay in control of their personal information, privacy, and online safety, reaffirming Google’s commitment to building products that are private by design and put users in control.
Previously, we launched the tool to make it easy for you to request the removal of search results that contain your personal phone number, home address or email, right from the Google app or however you access Search.
Now, we are updating Results About You to make it easier for you to control where your personal contact information can be found in Search.
You’re able to do this on a dashboard- available in the Google app or on Search- which shows whether web results with contact information are publically available.
So how can users access this tool?
- You can visit the Google app by clicking on your Google account photo, and selecting “Results about you” from the drop-down menu, or by visiting goo.gle/resultsaboutyou.
- Then all you have to do is provide information such as your name and a piece of contact information like an email address.
- Once you’ve signed up, a dashboard will appear that will indicate whether web results with your contact information are showing up on Search. You can then request for the removal of those results from Google — right in the tool.
- Google will notify you by email or by notifications on your mobile device when new results containing contact information pop up in Search.
- A request for the removal of specific search results containing personal contact information can also be made through the three dot menu on Search.
