What the Canadian Time Zone Changes Mean for Your Google Products

Google Canada

Oct 23, 2026

Several provinces and territories recently announced an end to the biannual time change, to remain on permanent Daylight Saving Time. That means, on November 1st, Canadians in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, parts of Northwestern Ontario and Northwest Territories won’t be moving their clocks back.

Why Your Devices Might Still Fall Back

Our teams are actively rolling out updates to reflect these regional changes across our products, but this process involves a long chain of updates, and due to short notice, may not reach every user in time. This could mean that on November 1st, some Google products including Android and Chrome devices like smartphones, smartwatches and laptops, along with Google Calendar may not be configured to prevent the clock from automatically switching to standard time.

How to Check and Manually Adjust Your Settings

If a software update is available on your Google devices, we recommend you download the latest software and restart your devices before November 1st. If your device or calendar displays the incorrect time on November 1st, you can easily adjust the time manually. Follow the steps below for your specific product:

Keeping Your Schedule on Track

From morning alarms to critical calendar invites, we know how much you rely on your devices to stay organized and on time. Our teams are working to ensure these updates reach all Canadian users as quickly as possible.

If you are located in or visiting any of the affected regions, take a quick moment on November 1st to confirm your device settings and ensure your schedule doesn't miss a beat.
