Growing the economy and opening new doors in Ireland
When we opened our first office in Ireland more than two decades ago, we started with just a handful of people. Since then, our Irish community has grown to more than 6,000 full-time employees, connecting local businesses with global markets and building tools used every day.
That journey is why I was so delighted to be joined by Alphabet and Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat, along with Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke, to unveil our newest building in Dublin - The Bakery. We also met to celebrate the findings of a new report from Implement Consulting Group, which paints a picture of deep-rooted partnership that underpins Google’s economic impact in Ireland.
Expanding our footprint at The Bakery
Known as The Bakery, this historic Grand Canal Street site was originally the City of Dublin Bakery, founded in 1874 by Patrick Boland, and was a garrison for volunteers in the 1916 Rising, before transitioning to a modern day office space. As the Taoiseach remarked, it is fitting that a building so central to Ireland’s political emergence will become an engine room for our digital and economic future.
The Bakery building will add an additional 325,000 square feet to Google’s existing footprint in Ireland and will be ready to welcome our teams from late 2027. It will have capacity to accommodate up to 1,900 Googlers, as well as a dedicated events hub and a rooftop terrace with extensive native planting.
Sustainability has been central to the building’s design, with the reuse of its existing structural steel and use of low carbon materials and rainwater harvesting among its key features.
Breaking down our economic impact
Implement’s research found that Google contributed €10.5 billion to Ireland's GDP in 2025 alone. But their findings are about so much more than numbers. What matters most is how this growth creates new opportunities for businesses, communities and future careers across our country.
Our physical offices are in Dublin, but our economic footprint reaches far wider. In 2025, Google supported more than 18,000 jobs across the wider Irish economy, including our own teams, vendors and jobs in sectors that support our daily operations.
Implement have calculated that, in 2025, our economic impact spread across three valuable areas that power local businesses and public services:
- Products & Platforms (approx €4 billion): Tools like Search and Google Play that directly link Irish businesses to international markets.
- AI & Cloud (approx €3 billion): Advanced workflows and cloud computing that help local enterprises work more efficiently.
- Infrastructure & Offices (approx €3 billion): Our physical data centre hub and office operations throughout the country.
Alongside this economic activity, we have invested €133 million over the years in local philanthropy and non-profit organisations to help open up digital opportunities for everyone, at every stage of life.
Training for the future of AI
Technology is changing quickly, and we want to ensure people, businesses and communities have the skills to change with it. Since 2016, we have trained more than 600,000 people across Ireland in digital and AI skills.
Whether for people looking to learn a new skill or to boost business productivity, these training initiatives are designed to help Ireland succeed as its economy evolves.
Our investment in Ireland is a long-term commitment to the people, businesses and communities that make this country thrive. We will continue to build secure, future-proof digital infrastructure and tools that help grow ideas and businesses.
