Driving large-scale impact for businesses and individuals through Gemini and Google Cloud

Any progress in the context of India must promise large-scale impact for it to be meaningful. And this is precisely what becomes possible with the power of AI.

India's unique approach to Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), characterized by open networks and interoperable architecture, has already unlocked incredible value in sectors like payments and commerce.

Now, we're taking this a step further by combining the power of open networks with our advanced AI model, Gemini, to fuel India's AI revolution.

Empowering India with Open Networks and AI: Introducing the Gemini Agent Framework

We're excited to announce a major step forward in making AI accessible and beneficial for every individual and business in India: the launch of an open-source AI Agent Framework powered by our Gemini Model. This framework combines the power of Beckn-enabled open networks with our advanced AI capabilities to create a seamless and intuitive experience for both businesses and consumers.

AI Agent Framework

This, in essence, means a unified access to information and services. Imagine a single platform where you can access information, products, and services from various providers, regardless of the specific app or network you're using.

Whether you're searching for electronics, agricultural inputs, educational courses, or job opportunities, the open-source Gemini Agent Framework can connect you with relevant providers and facilitate seamless transactions, all within a single interface on any network-complaint app of your choice.

It supports multiple Indian languages and offers voice-based interaction, making it accessible to users across different demographics and technological proficiency. To start with, we’re focusing on driving a transformative impact in two critical sectors of the economy: agriculture and skilling.

  • Agriculture: Empowering farmers with a single platform to access information on weather, seeds, harvest times, market prices, and even formal credit will streamline their operations and boost productivity.
  • Skilling: The open-source Gemini Agent Framework can help users discover relevant courses, facilitate learning, and connect them with job opportunities, all within a unified platform. Glance will offer this agent to its 235 million Android users across the country, equipping India's youth with the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy.

Strengthening India's Data Sovereignty

Data security and sovereignty are paramount, particularly for sectors like healthcare and finance where data residency in India is critical and mandatory. We're committed to empowering Indian organizations to harness the power of AI while maintaining complete control over their data.

Earlier this year, we enabled organizations using Google Cloud's generative AI capabilities to store their data at rest in India, ensuring sensitive data remains within Indian borders. This includes Generative AI on Vertex AI - PaLM 2, Codey and Imagen models, as well as Text Embeddings and Multimodal Embeddings APIs.

Building on this, we're excited to announce that later this year, Indian organizations across all sectors, including public sector enterprises, will have the option to both store their data at rest and conduct machine learning processing for our cutting-edge large language model, Gemini 1.5 Flash, entirely within India. This provides even greater control and security for organizations using our most-advanced AI models.

Sharing India's Digital Success with the World

India's DPI, with its innovative approach to open networks and interoperability principles, has become a global exemplar. We believe that these lessons can empower nations around the world to accelerate their own digital growth.

DPI in a Box

To facilitate this, we're partnering with the EkStep Foundation to launch "DPI in a box." This initiative will provide a readily deployable model based on key components of India's DPI, including:

  • Open Networks: Enabling interoperability and seamless integration across different platforms.
  • Identity: Using India's robust digital identity system for secure and efficient authentication.
  • Other Digital Public Goods: Incorporating best practices and learnings from India's DPI journey.

By combining these elements into a replicable plug-and-play model, we aim to empower nations to build their own robust digital infrastructure and unlock similar economic and social benefits.
