Leading the change: How AI innovators are driving social impact in India

Generative AI offers immense potential to revolutionize India's non-profit sector, enabling new approaches to social impact. To accelerate this transformation, Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, is announcing the newest cohort of its Generative AI Accelerator which will share $30 million in funding along with 6 months of dedicated pro bono support from Google employees, technical training, and Google Cloud credits to build their impactful gen AI solutions.

Among the 20 selected organizations globally, two innovative organizations are at the forefront driving social impact in India: ARMMAN and Visilant.

  • ARMMAN will leverage this support to further develop and scale its multilingual, multimodal high-risk pregnancy learning co-pilot for frontline workers across multiple states. The co-pilot will empower Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), enhancing their knowledge and confidence to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality in India.

  • Visilant, a non-profit digital health organization, is partnering with two of India’s leading eye care systems – Aravind Eye Hospital in Tamil Nadu and Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya in Madhya Pradesh – to scale its AI-powered vision screening platform across underserved communities in India. They aim to build and deploy next-generation generative AI models as a clinical co-pilot for frontline workers, advancing equitable eye care access.
