Partnering with UIDAI to Bring A Secure, Digital-First Identity with Aadhaar on Google Wallet
For years, we've provided users with secure and convenient ways to manage their identity digitally - whether checking into a hotel, boarding a flight or verifying their age online.
Today, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced the full launch of their new Aadhaar App and that users will soon be able to save Aadhaar Verifiable Credential to their preferred wallet. We are glad to be a partner in the UIDAI’s initiative, and look forward to working together to bring this experience to Google Wallet users.
This will allow users to seamlessly and securely add their Aadhaar Verifiable Credential to Google Wallet in just a few taps on their smartphone. The ability to save Aadhaar to Google Wallet will begin rolling out in the coming weeks.
Security, privacy and interoperability are at the foundation of our approach to digital identity - and they are built into every layer of this integration, too:
- Interoperability ensures users’ digital identity is recognized across different platforms and services worldwide. Being built on standards like ISO 18013-5 and the W3C Digital Credentials API ensures the Aadhaar Verifiable Credential is globally compatible and future-proof.
- Google Wallet's security and privacy measures put users in full control of their digital identity. We have integrated Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP), which makes it possible to verify specific facts, like whether the user is an adult, without revealing any additional data about the user.
We look forward to seeing how this feature helps simplify everyday life and give millions of Indians more control over their information.
