Google Maps in India: Enhancing Every Way You Travel with India-First Features
In India, our work has always focused on developing features specifically tailored to local travel needs. Today, we're continuing that commitment with new India-first features for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and metro commuters.
Ride in style with two-wheeler 'Navatars'
For two-wheeler riders, we have a special, fun update. India is the world's largest two-wheeler market, and riders here have a deep sense of pride in their vehicles. We're now adding a delightful touch — launching first for India's two-wheeler riders — with customizable 'Navatars'. Now, you can personalize your navigation icon by choosing from different two-wheeler types — like classic motorbikes, sports bikes, or scooters — and picking from eight vibrant colors. We’ll be rolling this out over the coming weeks first to Android users across India.
New voice navigation for flyovers
Building on the India-first flyover feature we launched last year, we're now adding new voice support for flyovers. This provides clearer, hands-free audio guidance in nine Indian languages, helping you prepare for upcoming flyovers and navigate these complex maneuvers with more confidence. This is especially useful for two-wheeler drivers, who will hear the flyover instructions without having to glance at their mobile. We are rolling this out to Android and iOS users over the coming weeks.
Easier metro ticket management with Google Wallet
Following our ONDC collaboration to bring metro ticket booking to Maps (now live in Delhi, Bangalore, Kochi, and Chennai, with Mumbai launching soon), we're now solving the next step of the traveler's needs. Instead of fumbling to get the booked ticket from your phone gallery or SMS link, Android users can now save purchased tickets directly to Google Wallet and access them seamlessly from Maps when they need them.
This is part of the 10 new updates we’re introducing to make your everyday journeys more seamless, intuitive, and safer with Google Maps. Read on to learn more about how we're Supercharging Maps with Gemini and launching new Safety & Disruption Alerts.
