India’s Year in Search 2025: New Ways to Search
Curiosity is boundless. We have seen people embrace new ways to search. Visual searches, for instance, have increased 70% globally year-over-year. India has been at the forefront of many of these innovations - more people use Google Lens here every month than in any other country worldwide.
To keep pace with this curiosity, 2025 marked a fundamental transformation: we continued to expand beyond information to intelligence, helping you make better sense of the world and take action. AI has made Google Search radically more helpful, so you can ask anything, any way. We brought many of these capabilities, like AI Mode and Search Live, to India as one of the first countries globally.
With our most intelligent Gemini models, this year we dramatically expanded how people search for information, as we saw you exploring longer, complex queries and multimodal searches. Here are 7 updates that transformed Search this year, starting with three exciting updates arriving just this week in India.
Expanding how we Search
Three exciting updates arriving just this week
AI Mode with Gemini 3: India was the first country outside the U.S. where we launched AI Mode, our most powerful AI Search, tapping into frontier capabilities to answer truly complex questions. Available in 8 Indian languages, we’ve seen users in India explore it for everything from education and comparisons to step-by-step instructions. Now, we’ve supercharged it with Gemini 3 in Search, starting with AI Mode (in English). Gemini 3 is our most intelligent model with state-of-the-art reasoning, deep multimodal understanding, and powerful agentic capabilities. It grasps the unprecedented depth and nuance of your hardest questions and unlocks new generative UI experiences. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can access Gemini 3 Pro by selecting “Thinking with 3 Pro” from the model drop-down menu in AI Mode.
Nano Banana Pro: Also introduced this week in India, Nano Banana Pro is our new state-of-the-art image generation and editing model. Built on Gemini 3 Pro, it combines advanced reasoning with Search's vast knowledge base to help you visualize ideas—whether you are designing prototypes or representing data as infographics. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in India can try it in AI Mode: just select the “Thinking with 3 Pro” from the model drop-down menu and choose the “Create Images Pro” tool.
Virtual Apparel Try On: Now, shoppers in India can virtually try on billions of apparel listings in our Shopping Graph in Search, as well as Google Shopping and product results on Google Images. You can try on tops, dresses, jackets and event shoes simply by uploading a photo of yourself. Powered by a custom AI model that understands how different fabrics fold, drape, and stretch on your specific body shape, this feature makes online shopping truly personal. Look for the ‘try it on’ icon on product listings to get started.
Innovations that reimagined Google Search in 2025
A foundation of breakthrough innovations we introduced throughout the year.
Lens in AI Mode: Visual search is now deeply integrated with our most advanced AI search experience. With Lens in AI Mode, you can do more than just identify what you see. You can upload a photo of a bookshelf or a complex scene, and AI Mode will analyze the relationships between objects, offering recommendations and letting you ask deeper follow-up questions to explore the context fully.
AI Mode in Circle to Search: We have taken the popular Circle to Search feature and infused it with AI Mode's reasoning. When you circle something on your screen, you can instantly ask complex follow-ups or get nuanced explanations without ever leaving your app.
Search Live in AI Mode: You can have a back-and-forth conversation with Google. This mobile-first experience lets you point your camera at an object, like a broken appliance or a math problem, and ask questions out loud, getting real-time, step-by-step help as if you were video calling a knowledgeable friend. This is available in English and Hindi.
Flight Deals: Finding affordable travel options has become effortlessly simple. With Flight Deals, you no longer need to juggle dates and filters. You can simply use natural language to describe your ideal trip, like "a week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only". Flight Deals will use Google’s AI to identify matching destinations and then tap into real-time Google Flights data to find the best options that match your intent.
