Google Health Coach is coming to New Zealand
Your health and wellness is extremely personal, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Over the past decade, wearables have unlocked a wealth of insights that help make more sense of our health. But with so much information, many people don’t know what to do with it.
The world’s top performers have a team of experts to help them reach their full health potential: a fitness trainer, medical expert, nutritionist, a sleep coach — all working together. We believe everyone should have this, too, and now they can with the Google Health Coach.
Now, with Google Health Premium, you can have the most personalised, holistic, adaptive coaching possible, right on your phone, 24/7, to easily understand what data is important, connect the dots and surface it when it’s helpful. Built with Gemini, the coach gives you personalised insights and acts as your fitness coach, sleep expert and health and wellness advisor. Starting May 20, Google Health Coach will exit preview and become available in New Zealand.
We’re listening to your feedback
When we launched the personal health coach in Public Preview last year, our goal was to build a new kind of health and wellness experience — one that doesn't just track your health and wellness insights but understands them, and you. The feedback we received from more than 500,000 of our users during this phase has been invaluable in helping us deliver on our goal. Since the beginning of 2026, we’ve been busy expanding the experience, bringing new features and improving existing ones in response to the feedback, including:
- The most-requested features, including Cycle Tracking, Nutrition, Mental Wellbeing, all redesigned for the new Google Health Coach experience and all rebuilt from the ground-up
- Improved sleep tracking algorithm accuracy to better detect naps and share sleep data sooner after waking up, and a new Sleep Score that brings you more actionable insights and metrics like interruptions and restlessness 1
- More refined and accurate coaching, with insights and chats that are more succinct and conversational, better reflecting real-life conversations
We’re offering a more holistic view of your health
The Google Health Coach, launching fully later this month, will include features we brought to the Preview plus additional core experiences 2 . We’re only getting started — we’ll continue to iterate and innovate the Coach experience based on your feedback.
- Evolving plans: The Coach meets you where you’re at. It knows you and evolves with your lifestyle, making suggestions based on your readiness, progress and even location and weather. Tell the Coach what motivates you, changes you want to make, available equipment, and update your goals all in real-time. It’s a coach that seamlessly fits into your life versus feeling like you need to follow a rigid or templatised plan. The more you interact with the Coach, the better it gets to know you.
- Step-by-step guidance: Updated dynamic workouts, including rich visualisations and instructions. You can now use a streamlined layout for step-by-step exercise logging, featuring automatic progress tracking that evolves with you. This experience integrates across devices, offering real-time heart rate streaming and remote start capabilities for trackers (and soon the Pixel Watch).
- Refreshed logging: You can track data via voice, images or documents. And you can verbally log complex workouts, upload photos of gym whiteboards for automatic exercise transcription or snap photos of meals for nutritional analysis. Additionally, the Coach can now interpret uploaded files, like PDFs or medical records.
We’re grounded in expertise and privacy
We know that health data is deeply personal. That’s why we grounded the coach in Gemini models and established health and wellness principles, along with safety, helpfulness, accuracy, relevance and personalization (collectively known as SHARP evaluation framework). To build the Google Health Coach responsibly and securely, we also collaborated with our Consumer Health Advisory Panel of leading medical experts and clinicians across multiple disciplines, and the Google in-house clinical and research/sports scientists to ensure our guidance is rooted in credible, evidence-based insights.
Additionally, Google Performance Advisor Stephen Curry and his team of experts worked in close collaboration with Google Health experts, to bring their collective knowledge and expertise to influence and shape aspects of goal setting, recovery and more.
“It's been a constant reminder of prioritising your health, prioritising your recovery, prioritising the things that you're doing on a daily basis. I can subjectively say I feel great, and I know I slept a certain amount... but there's an objective number that can tell you: is this a day that you really want to push yourself, or is this a day you kind of need to pull back a little bit and prioritise recovery?” — Steph Curry
As always, your privacy is in your control. Google committed to not use Fitbit users’ health and wellness data for Google Ads. The Fitbit app is now the Google Health app, and we’ll continue to keep this commitment.
Pricing and availability
The Google Health Coach will start rolling out on May 20 and will reach 100% on May 27, when the new Fitbit Air hits store shelves 3 . It is included with a Google Health Premium subscription (formerly Fitbit Premium), at just NZ$16.99 per month or NZ$149.99 per year. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will now also enjoy Google Health Premium at no extra cost, bringing even more value to these customers. The Coach is launching first for eligible Fitbit and Pixel Watch users, with support for other devices coming soon. Anyone can download the app to get started and sign up, and if you don't have a Fitbit device or Google Pixel Watch, you'll get notified when the Coach is ready for you.
