NotebookLM Audio Overviews Now in Swahili, Afrikaans & 50+ Languages

Last year, we expanded NotebookLM to more than 200 countries and now we’re making Audio Overviews available in more than 50 languages.
Audio Overviews, which turn your sources into engaging, podcast-like conversations, were immediately popular when they launched late last year. Now, thanks to Gemini’s native audio support, even more people can use Audio Overviews in their preferred language. This expansion directly benefits the African continent by now supporting languages like Swahili, spoken by tens of millions across East, Central, and Southern Africa, and Afrikaans, a key language in Southern Africa. This brings Audio Overviews to millions more users, alongside other new languages from Hindi to Turkish — and many more globally. This is an early look at what's possible with this feature — we plan to keep building and refining it based on your feedback.
Audio Overviews are generated in your account’s preferred language. This update also introduces a new "Output Language" option in NotebookLM's settings; your Audio Overviews are always generated in the language you select here. You can change the language at any time and your audio and chat responses will reflect this, making it easy to create multilingual content or study materials as needed.
For example, a teacher preparing a lesson on African heritage can share resources in various languages — like an Afrikaans article on unique flora, a Swahili oral history, and English research reports — with their students. The students can upload these and can generate an Audio Overview of key insights in their preferred language. This capability breaks down language barriers and makes the information more accessible to everyone.
We hope bringing more languages to Audio Overviews helps you discover new insights and connect with information in your own language. Try it out today at notebook.google. Give it a listen, 來聽看看, écoutez!
