Google Cloud is Fuelling Canadian Startup Growth

Startup

Canada's startup ecosystem is booming and is a magnet for success. According to StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index for 2024, Canada has maintained its fourth-place ranking in the world since 2020 and is one of the few countries to have at least three cities ranked in the global top 50.

We’re proud that many of these startups in Canada have chosen Google Cloud as their innovation partner and have begun building applications and models with our platform.

We’re committed to making Google Cloud the best place for startups to utilize and build AI, with our robust infrastructure and access to both TPUs and GPUs; broad choice of Google-built, open and partner models; and our Vertex AI platform.

In fact, more than 60% of funded generative AI startups and nearly 90% of gen AI unicorns are Google Cloud customers - from early-stage businesses to high-growth unicorns. We’ve seen strong growth in our startups program in Canada this year, as well, as companies look to innovate, scale and compete on a global stage.

"I'm incredibly proud of what these top startups have achieved with Google Cloud,” said Stephan Bitton, Interim Country Sales Leader, Canada Startups for Google Cloud. “It's a testament to the success of the new startup segment within Google Cloud, launched this year with a dedicated focus on empowering founders and digital native startups to drive innovation and accelerate their growth.”

One of the key drivers behind this growth is the Google for Startups Cloud Program and Google for Startups Accelerator: Canada program, which provides Canadian startups with access to cloud credits, technical expertise and mentorship opportunities. This program helps startups overcome the initial hurdles of building and scaling their businesses, allowing them to focus on developing innovative products and services. To date, over 100 participating Canadian companies have collectively raised more than $395M CAD and hired over 900 new employees after having gone through the program.

Moreover, Google Cloud's commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with the values of many Canadian startups. By offering carbon-neutral cloud solutions, Google Cloud enables these companies to minimize their environmental footprint while pursuing their growth ambitions.
