PollCheck 2022: A Digital Training Series For Journalists Covering Upcoming State Elections



The Google News Initiative India Training Network, in collaboration with DataLEADS, invites journalists and journalism students to register for PollCheck 2022: Covering India’s Election. The digital training series is designed to support journalists reporting the upcoming state polls in India.

Whether you are reporting on a specific local issue or seeking to visualize election results, the workshop is designed to help strengthen skills in digital journalism and learn about a range of tools, tips and techniques - from Google and beyond - that can help journalists prepare for their election story.

‘PollCheck 2022’ workshops - starting in February - will focus on digital tools and best practices for newsgathering and online verification and help journalists to find, verify and tell engaging stories. Industry experts will lead sessions and will allow ample time for questions.

The 2022 series will cover the following topics that relate to the current elections:

  • Data Visualization
  • Online Safety
  • Safety First: Covering Polls In A Pandemic

PollCheck 2022 will kick-off on January 29th with a Virtual Roundtable of editors. A panel of leading editors and reporters will discuss emerging trends and challenges of covering elections, and the importance of innovation, technology and digital upskilling.

The training is open to journalists, media educators, bloggers, community radio station professionals and journalism students. Interested participants are required to register here.

ABOUT GOOGLE NEWS INITIATIVE INDIA TRAINING NETWORK

The Google News Initiative India Training Network was launched in July 2018, and brought together 240 trainers - journalists and media educators - empowering them with the skills needed to identify and fact-check online misinformation. Since then, this pan-India network has passed on these skills to over 35,000 journalists, media educators, journalism students and fact-checkers across many cities in India via over 700 workshops held both in-person and online.
