Introducing Electric Saul: A free AI tool helping households go electric and cut bills.

For many Australian families, the daily conversation around the kitchen table is increasingly focused on one practical challenge: managing the rising cost of living. From monthly electricity bills to everyday expenses, finding ways to stretch the family budget has become a top priority.

At the same time, there is a growing interest in the long-term savings that come with clean energy. Electrifying our homes—by transitioning appliances like heating, hot water, and cooktops to run on low-cost renewable power—is one of the most effective ways for families to take back control of their energy costs. But with so many options, figuring out where to start feels like a complex puzzle.

That is why we are incredibly proud to support a new solution being launched today by Rewiring Australia: Electric Saul—a free, interactive, AI-powered tool designed to put trusted, personalised electrification advice directly at your fingertips. Electric Saul has been developed with support from Google’s $1 billion Digital Future Initiative

Introducing Electric Saul, a free AI tool helping Australian households electrify and save on bills

A free, personalised expert for Australian families

As Rewiring Australia outlines, Electric Saul translates years of complex engineering and energy research into simple, actionable, and plain-speaking advice.

Built on Google’s advanced technology, their tool draws on the pioneering work of world-renowned Australian engineer and advocate Dr. Saul Griffith. It helps Australians answer the most pressing questions of what to electrify first, what’s the cost, how much they can save, and what government support may be available.

Through the tool, households across Australia now have access to personalised guidance tailored to their specific home, their vehicle, location, current appliances and their personal energy goals.People can ask Electric Saul questions about solar panels, home batteries, hot water systems, heating, induction cooking, electric vehicles (EVs), and home energy upgrades to build a practical, customised plan and prepare for conversations with installers and other tradespeople.

Combining expertise & experience with Google AI

Electric Saul is built on Google Cloud and powered by Google’s Gemini Flash models. These AI tools can synthesise data from Rewiring’s pilot programs along with expert advice from Saul and other authoritative sources to produce the customised recommendations for individual Australian households. Google Cloud allows that capability to be accessed across Australia, all while protecting the privacy and security of the tool’s users.

Rewiring Australia has made great progress with their community electrification pilots providing invaluable practical learnings and data on the household electrification process. The challenge is harnessing these efforts to help electrify Australia’s millions of homes.

The Rewiring team has developed a national network of more than 100 community groups. However they needed a scalable tool to provide practical, household specific electrification guidance at a national level. Our collaboration changes that, using Google's technology with their local expertise to turn complex research into a simple advisor that will help thousands of families buy new appliances and cars every day.

Achieving Australia’s 2035 emissions reduction targets relies on the rapid electrification of Australian homes. We are excited to support Rewiring Australia on a project that provides a practical tool to address these efforts.
