Imagine with Shakun Batra X Google Gemini
We’ve seen countless videos by users, brands, and creators using Veo 3 in fun and exciting ways, offering an exciting glimpse into what’s possible with AI-generated video. While it’s still early days, we see these models and tools as powerful enablers designed to empower human imagination and help a new wave of storytellers bring their vision to life.
This is why we're thrilled to unveil the 'Imagine with Shakun Batra X Google Gemini’ series, a cinematic experiment directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Jouska Films, in collaboration with Google. This will be a five-part visual series dedicated to exploring how AI can act as a thoughtful creative partner in narrative filmmaking, opening up new avenues of imagination, accessibility, and expression.
Using Veo 3 in Gemini and Flow—our AI filmmaking tool— over the coming months, Shakun and team will be experimenting with AI-powered cinematic sequences across distinct genres, from action and drama to sci-fi and comedy.
For Shakun, this project is about discovering the true creative potential of AI. He says "AI in filmmaking isn’t about replacing the craft, but rethinking the process—exploring what becomes possible when artists and technology collaborate instead of compete. This series is not a campaign or a commercial - it’s an experiment in curiosity. AI tools like Veo 3 in Google Gemini and Flow can truly democratize cinematic storytelling. That feeling of independence is a massive unlock, especially for so many independent artists who struggle to bring their vision to life.”
First up: 'The Getaway Car'
The first sequence in the series, 'The Getaway Car,' set to release tomorrow is a high-octane car chase. “This tech gave me a way to finally explore what a car chase would look like, something I’ve never done before,” Batra adds. “It's the kind of ambitious, dynamic concept that, for many independent artists, can be challenging to produce due to logistical and budget constraints. This is where the technology can step in to open new avenues for visualizing and iterating complex ideas. Rough edges and all, it was one of the most freeing creative experiences I’ve had. It's not perfect, but it’s a glimpse of what’s possible when curiosity leads the way.”
He believes this technology has the potential to amplify an artist's creative vision. He adds: "Even a student in a small town, with a story and a vision, can now produce sequences that used to require studio-scale resources. If used right, AI doesn’t reduce creativity; it liberates it. While the tools generate visuals, it's the filmmaker’s choices that give them meaning. In a world of endless generation, the artist's role in curating what matters becomes even more important.”
We can’t wait to see what the visual storytelling community in India can imagine and build.
