Your Privacy at the heart of Google Pay

Everyday billions of people put their trust in us to keep their data secure and their information private. We don’t take this trust for granted, and work hard to ensure that people are able to understand and manage their data and make privacy choices that are right for them.   We do this by putting our users in the driver’s seat to manage their data and privacy with easy-to-use privacy features and controls.

We know that safety and privacy is paramount for payments products and services, and people want more control and transparency on how their  transaction data is used. In line with this commitment, your financial and transaction information on Google Pay has always been governed by your consent. Your personal information is never sold to anyone and your transaction history is not shared with any other Google product for targeting ads.

We are committed to do more, and are excited to announce the next big step towards giving you more choice and control to manage your transaction data on Google Pay.  Starting next week, your Google Pay app settings will provide you with more controls to decide how your Google Pay activity is used to personalise features within the app. All users will be asked to choose whether they would like to turn the control on or off as soon as they upgrade to the next version of the Google Pay app.

Turning on “Personalisation within Google Pay'' will provide a more tailored experience within Google Pay. For example, you’ll receive more relevant offers and rewards based on your activity within Google Pay, including your transaction history.  Even with this setting turned off, Google Pay will continue to work just as well - only without personalisation. Users who update Google Pay on Android and iOS can access these controls to modify their personalisation experience on Google Pay based on their preference.

You will also be able to manage how your individual transactions and activity within Google Pay are used for personalisation by visiting account.google.com. Here you can view and delete individual transactions and activity records that you don’t want used to personalise your Google Pay experience.

We sincerely hope that people will appreciate the ability to easily see and control how their data is used, and enjoy delightful product experiences irrespective of the choices they make on Google Pay. As India embraces digital payments, we remain committed to bringing the industry along to ensure that we keep raising the bar to deploy state-of-the-art data security and privacy measures and put the users in-charge of how their data is used.
