8 things I loved in my first 8 days with Pixel 8 Pro

A photograph of a person's hand holding a blue Pixel 8 Pro.

My Pixel 7 Pro — on the right — did the heavy lifting of copying all my settings over to my new Pixel 8 Pro.

A Pixel 8 Pro sits on a desk next to a Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel 8 Pro’s screen says “Getting your phone ready” and has details about the process below. The Pixel 7 Pro says “Continue setup on your new device. Keep both devices on and close to each other until setup is complete.”

Finally, a photo where neither of us is blinking!

A Pixel 8 Pro showing the Best Take feature in use on the screen. There is a photo of a man in a suit with his arm around a woman in a blue dress. They are both smiling. Below the photo are two icons of their faces. The icon of the woman’s face is selected, showing three other icons of her face below it, each one slightly different. One of them is highlighted and selected, and this image matches that of her face in the final main image above.

The Pixel 8 Pro has slightly rounded edges compared to the Pixel 7 Pro — and I love the matte back.

Two phones — a Pixel 8 in a rose color and a Pixel 8 Pro in a blue color — stand side by side, leaning against a white wall. The backs of the phones featuring their cameras are facing out away from the wall.

The generative AI wallpaper feature lets you choose prompts to come up with creative images.

A Pixel 8 Pro’s screen shows the generative AI feature. A prompt is written out below that says “A surreal castle made of agate in shades of cream and orange” and on the screen there is a surreal-looking castle that is crystal-like and a taupe, orange, and rose color.

I’m partial to this fun, bubbly typeface for my clock.

A Pixel 8 Pro shows the “wallpaper & style” tab open, with the option to choose a typeface for the clock. A bubbly typeface is selected, showing bubbly numbers — 11:28 — overlaid on the image of the crystal-like castle.
