6 new conversations with global leaders on AI and society
In order to harness AI’s development for the benefit of everyone, everywhere, it’s necessary to intentionally engage with people across industries, disciplines and geographies who hold different perspectives on AI and what it means for our world.
That’s why, over the past year, we’ve convened conversations with leading thinkers from around the world to explore some of the biggest questions on AI, and have shared some of these discussions on YouTube through our Dialogues on Technology and Society series, and in a special publication created in partnership with The Atlantic.
Today we’re releasing six new conversations with global experts that thoughtfully consider AI’s impact on economic, societal and scientific transformation.
James Manyika and Ngaire Woods, Founding Dean of University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, discuss the role of policy in maximizing AI’s benefits and minimizing its risks.
Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs for Google and Alphabet, sits down with MIT Principal Research Scientist Andrew McAfee to discuss generative AI’s potential to accelerate economic progress and productivity.
James Manyika and Anna Greka, Professor, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, dive into the use of AI in scientific and medical research and how it helps scientists understand genetic diseases and develop targeted treatments.
Jigsaw CEO Yasmin Green and Rory Stewart, former Member of Parliament and Senior Advisor of NGO GiveDirectly, explore the impact of AI on democracy and the role of policy in shaping AI’s development.
James Manyika and Lord Nicholas Stern, Chair of London School of Economics’ Grantham Research Institute, discuss how AI can help accelerate a green transition and how AI is helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
President of Google EMEA Matt Brittin and Project Everyone Co-Founder Kate Garvey discuss the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and the role of AI in achieving them globally.
In these quick, candid conversations, you’ll hear from leaders who are working to change the world: a university dean and professor advising the next generation of public servants; a physician-scientist revolutionizing disease research; an economist accelerating climate action; Google’s inaugural Technology & Society visiting fellow analyzing the global workforce; a former Member of UK Parliament focused on safeguarding democracy; and a communications leader bringing global attention and action to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Discussing how AI innovation is rapidly advancing each of these areas, while also digging into the real risks AI presents, each conversation explores how this technology can bring meaningful and positive change to people around the world, and the partnership required to get it right.
You can listen to all six episodes on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
