Google Ads, helping small businesses do more

Article's hero media

We first offered ads on Google nearly 18 years ago to help people connect with businesses online. Since then, a lot has changed. People now search for what they want from their phones, discover places on Google Maps, watch videos on YouTube, all while on the go. Today we introduced Google Ads, formerly known as Google AdWords, as our effort to help businesses of all sizes connect with relevant customers across all of our channels and partner sites.

With the introduction of Google Ads, small business can now use Smart campaigns, our new default ads experience. We built Smart campaigns by tailoring the innovation and advertising technology available with Google Ads for small business owners. You can now create ads in minutes and drive real results—like making your phone ring, sending leads to your website, or bringing customers to your store.

Get the results you care about

For 90 percent of small business owners, the main goal of advertising online is to get customers to call, visit a store, or make a purchase.* When you use Smart campaigns, we’ll ask how it’s working for your goals, so we can fine-tune your ads to get the results you care about most.

Suzie Mills, owner of Honest Soul Yoga in Alexandria, VA, started using Google Ads to get more people to sign up for her yoga classes. Smart campaigns help her promote special offers, get calls from her ads, and keep her classes full. “Our phone is ringing off the hook,” said Suzie, “and the number of intro offers we’re selling has doubled in 60 days.”

Stand out from the competition

Images help your products or services stand out, and later this year we will launch Image Picker, making it easier for you to showcase what makes your business unique. Pick the top three images from our suggestions or upload your own, and your ads will be ready to go. We’ll help you get results by testing combinations of the text and images you selected.

Reach the right people in the right moment

We show your ads to customers who are interested in what your business offers, and are likely to call, visit your store, or make a purchase on your website. We’ve found that Smart campaigns are 3 times better at getting your ad in front of the right audience.

Dylan Lipe, Culinary Director at BBQ Supply Co., uses Google Ads to bring new customers to the restaurants, classes, and events he runs in Chicago, IL. Customers often tell him how they found his ads while they were searching for local wood-smoked barbecue or pit-to-plate dining events. “You can’t buy street cred,” said Dylan, “but you can build it through Google Ads.”

And this is just the beginning

No matter what keeps you busy every day—whether it’s perfecting your barbecue skills or leading yoga classes—you can count on Google Ads to help you do more. Let’s take a look at how some of our small businesses use Google Ads.
