3 ways Android work profile can help your business

More people are using one device for work and play, making it easier on their pockets and the planet. But this can get complicated when it comes to separating and protecting data. With 71% of employees expecting all personal information to remain private on work devices, organizations are looking for ways to keep both corporate and personal data secure on one device.

Android work profile allows you to set up separate work and personal profiles on a single Android device, giving organizations more control over corporate data while still respecting employees’ privacy. Plus, work profile makes it easier to manage devices and even offers helpful productivity tools.

Here are three ways work profile can support your business:

1. Separate apps to prevent breaches and protect privacy

Your IT teams can choose what business apps are allowed in the work profile and what policies and controls apply to that data. But while IT can restrict certain apps for overall device security, they cannot access any app data in the personal profile. Segmenting profile data gives employees control and privacy over personal apps while limiting security and regulatory risks for your organization.

Two Android devices float against a blue circle in the background. One phone screen shows a personal profile with various Google apps, the other shows a work profile with other apps.

“Using work profile helps us stay compliant with Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO27001 and our other regulatory responsibilities, while also assuring clients that we’re managing their data effectively and securely,” says Damien Behan, Innovation & Technology Director at Brodies LLP.

2. Easily deploy and manage devices

Work profile offers more flexible device options. Your IT teams can either unlock personally owned Android devices for work use or allow personal use on corporate Android devices.

“The vast majority of [Trimble’s] devices are employees’ personal phones enrolled with the work profile,” says Frej Krook, Collaboration Community Manager for Employee Tools at Trimble. “Our data and apps are securely managed, while our teams have privacy over their personal data and flexibility to disconnect.”

It’s also easy to provision devices from anywhere. With Android Enterprise’s zero-touch enrollment,1 you can set up and configure work profiles remotely so employees have immediate access to the apps and integrations they need to get to work.

And for employees using their personal devices, IT admins can remotely wipe a work profile without impacting the device’s personal data — which is particularly useful if an employee leaves the company or devices are lost or stolen.

3. Improve employee productivity and work-life balance

Beyond security and device management, work profile also offers productivity tools for employees — like Phone Hub for easy access to phone content on Chromebooks; Intuitive Context Switching between work and personal profiles; Smart Dictation for quick and efficient communication; and Near Field Communications (NFC) for mobile payments and keycard support.

Work profile packs some helpful digital well-being features as well. You can easily toggle off work notifications at the end of the day or even schedule them on select devices. And the digital well-being dashboard shows key activities, like how much time you spend in apps and how often you unlock your phone, to help you set personal goals.

“By enrolling personal devices with the Android work profile, we know we are not only protecting our data and services, but we can prove to our employees that, with the work profile, ‘What you have here is your work life, what you have here is your personal life.’ And that has revolutionized the way our teams use their mobile devices,” says Simon Hardy-Bistagne, Director of Solution Architecture at Schneider Electric.

An Android device shows a screen titled “Digital Wellbeing” with a score displayed in a circle. It highlights hours spent on each app and also shows an option to turn on bedtime mode.
