Supporting safer learning with secure tools and partnerships

Our education technology is focused on creating a safer digital learning environment for every school, classroom and student. So this Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we’re putting a spotlight on our built-in security features, responsible AI tools and partnerships to help people learn confidently and securely.
Security and privacy built in
Security and privacy are fundamental and built into all our features. When using Google Workspace for Education core services, we ensure learning environments have guardrails to protect against spam and other cyberthreats. Admins have access to built-in automated protections for 24/7 monitoring, encryptions and security alerts. Plus, there have been zero reported successful ransomware attacks on Chromebooks to date.
Responsible AI in our teaching and learning tools
We're also transforming teaching and learning with responsible AI tools like Gemini for Education and NotebookLM. We are committed to doing this in a responsible and accessible way for our users. Gemini for Education and NotebookLM have enterprise-grade data protection, meaning data is not reviewed or used to train AI models. Additionally, admins are always in control and can choose who has access to these tools. Students under 18 get a unique experience in Gemini and NotebookLM, with stricter content policies that help prevent them from seeing potentially inappropriate or harmful responses. Additionally, NotebookLM grounds answers to user provided sources, providing verifiable information tailored to your projects.
Plus, parents and guardians can have increased confidence that their child is learning in a secure digital environment. With Google resources like Family Link and Be Internet Awesome, these digital safety practices can extend to home for a holistic learning experience for the whole family.
Commitments and partnerships
Outside of our own products, we fund initiatives like the Google.org U.S. Cybersecurity Clinics Fund, where we are investing $25 million to grow the U.S. cybersecurity workforce. This initiative has launched 25 cybersecurity clinics across the country, providing hands-on support to help community-based organizations secure their critical systems while creating opportunities for students, who receive mentorship from volunteer Googlers.
A shared responsibility
Through our robust built-in security features, responsible AI development and resources for the entire school community, Google for Education helps educators, students and parents navigate the digital landscape with confidence and peace of mind.
