Partnering to power Miami’s AI-ready future

From K-12 education through development in the workforce, we aim to build tools and products for lifelong learning — and work hand in hand with the people who use them every day. Today, we’re in Miami, with institutional and community leaders from Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and Miami Dade College (MDC). Together, we announced we’re developing and piloting AI-powered solutions to support both learning outcomes and operational efficiency. Plus, we’re investing in training faculty on Gemini and launching a new global learning platform.
Piloting the future, together
M-DCPS is the third-largest school district in the United States and is all in on Google’s Gemini initiative for schools. This means providing Gemini for Education to its 100,000 high school students and Google’s Generative AI for Educators course to all 18,000 of their teachers. We’re also providing Gemini Academy trainings and certifications for M-DCPS educators. The goal is to help them use AI more efficiently and effectively to produce better learning outcomes.
But the district is not standing still — they’re looking to experiment in smart ways by piloting new AI agents to help even more. One pilot aims to use AI to create more personalized tutoring for students that acts like a digital "wallet" for their knowledge, helping them get personalized lessons and academic support throughout their education. Another project will help district and school administrators more easily interpret data to make decisions about administrative tasks and management.
We’re also launching new curriculum-aligned music education courses from TED-Ed, Education Through Music and YouTube artists for grades 6-12. These courses are designed to bridge arts education gaps by providing equitable access to high-quality videos along with educator resources and interactive video supplements. Built from initial prototypes created by educational experts using Gemini Canvas, these apps help students deepen their understanding of lesson content via hands-on engagement, even if they don’t have access to instruments or equipment.
Investing in workforce preparedness
When we started working with M-DCPS and MDC, their leaders said their dream was for students to carry the mastery they gained in K-12 all the way to college, and then into the world of work. MDC is part of the Google AI for Education Accelerator, which offers free access to industry-recognized career certificates, AI training and Google's most advanced AI tools. And the district has trained thousands of students and faculty in Google’s AI Essentials training.
We are also supporting Miami Dade College as a leader of the National Applied AI Consortium (NAAIC), which connects community colleges, industry leaders and faculty nationwide to build a robust national AI talent pipeline. To further the work of the NAAIC, we are providing a $2 million grant that will support their mentorship expansion to 30 community colleges across 20 states.
Across the board, we have nearly 3,000 courses featuring AI experts from Google, on teams ranging from Google DeepMind to Grow with Google, Google Cloud and Google for Education. Today, we’re bringing all these courses and credentials into one spot, with the launch of a global platform called Google Skills. To date, people have completed more than 26 million courses, labs and credentials in the past year alone.
Building skills doesn’t just fuel career growth — it powers businesses, too. That’s why Google continues to expand its efforts to connect trained talent to employers. And now, we’re taking it one step further. Employers like Miami-Dade County Public Schools, that want to identify and hire top talent quickly, are using our skills-based hiring initiative. For those who complete a Google Cloud Certificate, there's now a direct pathway to an interview with M-DCPS.
What we’re partnering to build in the Miami community is just one example of how we want to work with other regions, cities and countries to bring the best of Google AI to improve learning for everyone.
