Simplify the holidays with 4 new Google Maps features
Google Maps can help you save time and stay ahead this holiday season — especially thanks to four new features rolling out now:
Get insider tips built with Gemini
When you’re preparing for a holiday outing — like a date night or group activity — there are so many details to know before you head out. Is there a dress code? What’s parking like nearby?
Now, when you search for places in Maps like restaurants, hotels or concert venues, scroll down to find new "know before you go" tips — it’s like having a knowledgeable guide show you the way. Using Gemini capabilities, Maps does the research for you: It uses reviews and helpful information it finds online to surface top insights, like the best way to book a reservation, what the secret menu items are, parking tips and more — and you can click on each of the tips to get more information. These insider tips are rolling out now in the U.S. on Android and iOS.
Find what’s trending nearby with the updated Explore tab
Finished holiday shopping with time to spare before your dinner reservation, or need last-minute inspiration for things to do when your family is in town? The updated Explore tab in Maps can help you find your next move in seconds.
Swipe up to see trending and popular restaurants, activities and sights near you — from the cozy cafe that just opened down the street or a quirky art gallery around the corner. It’s also easier to find curated lists from trusted sources like Viator, Lonely Planet and OpenTable, in addition to local influencers like Sisterssnacking so you can discover your new favorite spot. The updated Explore tab starts rolling out this month globally on Android and iOS.
Make sure EV chargers are available for road trips
The last thing you want on a holiday road trip is to arrive at a charging station only to find that all the ports are taken. While Maps already shows you if a charger is available right now from networks like Tesla Superchargers and Electrify America, it could be in use by the time you get there.
Now, you can see how many chargers will likely be available upon your arrival by just searching for “EV chargers” in Maps. To do this, we’re using AI to analyze historical and real-time charger availability to predict how many chargers are likely to be free once you’re there, helping you avoid lines and save time. EV charger availability predictions start rolling out next week on Android Auto and cars with Google built-in for hundreds of thousands of charging stations around the world.
Be your local business’ Secret Santa
Leaving a great review for that bakery with your favorite pumpkin pie is a simple way to spread some holiday cheer. If you prefer not to use your real name, you can now choose a nickname and profile picture to be associated with your reviews — so you can give that helpful shop a five-star review as “Eager Elf” or “Julia Loves Sweets.”
And don't worry about Grinches trying to spoil the fun: Our built-in protections still monitor for suspicious and fake reviews 24/7, since no matter what nickname you use publicly, reviews are still associated with your Google Account behind the scenes. This feature is rolling out this month globally on Android, iOS and desktop.
