Become the main character in a new city with AI features from Google Arts & Culture
Today, we’re launching two experimental features in the Google Arts & Culture app that look beyond the logistics of travel to spark inspiration for where to go and what to see.
City Guide: From iconic sights to live moments
With City Guide, we are piloting a new way to help you connect with the culture around you. We’re exploring how AI can move beyond generic recommendations to surface a mix of landmarks and live cultural events that actually match your tastes.
Rather than offering a static directory, the guide adapts to your schedule. You can set a specific timeframe like "Today" or "This weekend" and select from 12 distinct interest categories ranging from Visual Arts to History and even Hidden Gems.
A "Show live events only" option spotlights current exhibitions and performances, helping you sample some of the fleeting cultural moments that bring a city to life.
We're launching this pilot for 11 cities: London, Tokyo, New York, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Istanbul, Osaka, Berlin, Madrid and San Francisco.
Comic Postcards: A fun way to create travel memories
As a creative extension to the City Guide pilot, we’re also introducing Comic Postcards. This generative AI experience places you inside a dynamic narrative set specifically in the city you’re exploring.
Whether you’re seeking a moment of zen among the ancient ruins of Rome or channeling an adventurous mood while navigating Tokyo’s neon-lit streets, Comic Postcards uses your selfie, mood and art style preferences to cast you as the protagonist of a unique story. It creates a playful memento that reflects the city.
While generating your comic strip, the feature also provides an opportunity to learn about the art style you selected. You might come to see yourself as a comic book hero, but you’ll leave knowing the difference between Golden Age line work and modern graphic novel noir.
