Meet 24 startups advancing healthcare with AI
One in five Europeans suffer from mental health conditions, but there aren’t nearly enough psychiatrists to meet demand. Many therapists can only see each patient every four to six weeks — far less than what is recommended for chronic issues, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. This is the problem that French startup, Callyope, sought to solve with AI-powered technology. Callyope enables psychiatrists to deliver personalized and outcome-based care with remote patient monitoring capabilities. Patients perform a 1-minute voice test on a smartphone then Callyope’s AI tech analyzes the patient’s speech to predict psychiatric clinical scores, assess fatigue, and estimate cognition deficits. This shortens the time typically needed to find and adjust the right treatment and prevent relapses to avoid rehospitalization.
Callyope is just one of 24 tech companies selected for the 2024 cohort of the Google for Startups Growth Academy: AI for Health program, dedicated to supporting high-potential startups in the healthcare and wellbeing industry using AI technology to grow and innovate responsibly. The three-month program kicked off this week in Paris with an in-person summit connecting founders to industry experts and other founders building with AI in the healthcare and wellbeing space. Over the next ten weeks, participants will join virtual workshops on best practices for AI and leadership development, responsible innovation, product design and customer acquisition, as well as one-on-one mentorship sessions and technical project support from experts from Google Research, Google Health, Verily, Fitbit, Google DeepMind and more. After the initial three months of core content, startups continue to receive product support and mentorship from Google to help them address their challenges.
