Today we announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Salt River Project (SRP) — the second largest public power utility in the country — to help accelerate the next frontier of innovation for long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies.
LDES is an emerging energy solution that can store and dispatch clean, reliable power for 10+ hours at a time, helping unlock new electricity capacity and increasing resilience for grids with a high volume of renewables, like SRP’s. We shared why LDES is a key pathway to 24/7 carbon-free energy in a recent blog about our first LDES partnership with Energy Dome.
Through this new utility-led deployment model, Google will support multiple LDES pilot projects in Arizona with technology developers identified by SRP. Together, we aim to accelerate the early learnings and technological advancements needed to bring LDES solutions to market faster, creating a more resilient clean energy future for all.
