Today with the City of The Dalles, Oregon, we’re celebrating the completion of a new aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) system — a new water infrastructure project set to increase the city’s water capacity for decades.
This project is part of our deep investment in Oregon, where we operate data centers that deliver AI-powered technologies — like Cloud, Maps, Workspace and YouTube — to people and businesses around the world.
Functioning like a savings account, the ASR system captures and stores water during the rainy season that would otherwise be lost as runoff. This stored water can be used during drier months, helping safeguard The Dalles against drought.
We have permanently transferred ownership of the ASR system and its associated groundwater rights to the city. By making this resource available for public benefit, we’ve provided the community with over 100 million additional gallons of water annually.
