Fitbit now preferred activity tracker for Weight Watchers

This post was originally published on the Fitbit press site. It has been adapted from its original format.

WHO: Fitbit, the global leader in the fast-growing Connected Health and Fitness category, and Weight Watchers, the leading provider of weight management services.

WHAT: Marking the next step in a growing collaboration between the companies, Fitbit is now the global preferred activity tracker for Weight Watchers. As the preferred activity tracker, only Fitbit devices – and no other activity trackers currently on the market – will be sold in Weight Watchers meetings and via the Weight Watchers eCommerce Online Store.

Fitbit and Weight Watchers recently partnered to integrate data between Fitbit activity tracking devices and Weight Watchers digital tools. Through this integration, activities logged via Fitbit are automatically converted into Weight Watchers Activity PointsPlus® values in the Weight Watchers subscriber app, bringing millions of users and members the opportunity for a more complete and integrated weight loss experience.

Now, Fitbit and Weight Watchers are expanding their alliance with a global retail partnership. In participating Weight Watchers meetings and via the Weight Watchers eCommerce Online Store, Weight Watchers members around the world can purchase Fitbit’s top-selling line of activity trackers – Fitbit Zip, Fitbit One, Fitbit Flex, Fitbit Charge, Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge – for instant access to all-day activity insights, including steps, distance, floors climbed, sleep and more. Fitbit’s newest trackers – Charge, Charge HR and Surge – also feature a combination of smart notifications, heart rate and GPS, depending on the device.

Through valuable information from Fitbit trackers and data integration between Fitbit and Weight Watchers, the companies are bringing their communities together and offering them the tools they need to help them reach their goals, no matter what health and fitness looks like to them.

WHEN: Fitbit trackers will be available for purchase in participating Weight Watchers meetings and via the Weight Watchers eCommerce Online Store in January 2015.

WHERE: Fitbit and Weight Watchers are now partnering in 11 countries, including the U.S., Australia, Belgium, France, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The partnership will expand to Canada in February 2015 and is already available in Germany and the U.K.

WHY: Fitbit’s mission is to help people lead healthier, more active lives by empowering them with information and inspiring them to reach their goals. Weight Watchers brings more than 50 years of weight management expertise to its mission of helping people change their relationship with food for good. Together, Fitbit and Weight Watchers are able to provide a better, more complete solution for users. With Fitbit as the preferred activity tracker, Weight Watchers members will have the power of the best-selling and most popular trackers on the market to help them achieve their goals.

Making changes to food intake plus increasing physical activity can result in greater weight loss than physical activity alone. In fact, multiple studies show that people lose, on average, three times more weight by combining diet and exercise, than through exercise alone. This partnership brings together two of the largest global health communities to deliver a robust experience that can help people to reach and maintain their health, weight and fitness goals through better insights into food and activity.

Fitbit’s products have been shown to increase activity, with Fitbit users taking 43 percent more steps on average, whether through exercise or small changes in daily life. Fitbit products take the guesswork out of activity tracking, giving Weight Watchers members information and motivation to achieve their fitness goals.
