14 new things you can do with Pixel thanks to AI

A black background revealing a slight outline of what appears to be the top of a phone. The corners are curved and silhouette — highlighted in a slight purple hue — fades to black. There is a pill-shaped outline on the top of the phone, the camera bar.

At Made by Google 2024, we introduced a lot of Pixel devices — Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 — as well as updates across Android and Gemini. And tons of these new Pixel features are powered by AI. Here are 14 things you can do with the new Pixel portfolio thanks to the best of our built-in AI technology.

Say hello to Gemini, your built-in personal AI assistant

As the assistant on your Pixel 9, Gemini brings a whole new level of AI assistance. Easily access Gemini anywhere on your phone by simply pressing the power button. Gemini is deeply integrated with Google apps and Android and can handle complex queries without hand-off to third-party AI providers you may not know or trust. Pixel now has Gemini Live, a mobile conversational experience that lets you have free-flowing conversations with Gemini, available to Gemini Advanced subscribers at launch.

The Gemini assistant uses multimodal models, which means you can communicate with it through text, images or voice. You can use written prompts, upload images or even speak directly to Gemini on your Pixel — whatever you prefer.

Enhance your photos with powerful new tools

New Pixel phones mean new Pixel photography and video capabilities and features — and there are a few notable additions made possible by AI. For starters, there’s Add Me, which uses augmented reality and AI so you never miss out on a group shot again! And with the upgraded 5x telephoto lens and Video Boost on Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, Super Res Zoom Video gets you high-quality zoom up to 20x. Plus Magic Editor allows you to re-imagine your photos using generative AI, and Auto Frame is there to help you recompose your image and put a better focus on the subject.

Get creative with Pixel Studio

Pixel Studio1 is a new app for Pixel 9 phones: It’s a first-of-its-kind image generator powered by an on-device diffusion model running on Tensor G4 and our Imagen 3 text-to-image model in the cloud. It allows you to quickly bring your ideas to life with easy-to-use prompting, style changes, personal stickers and on-device editing. It’s an incredibly fun tool for everyday creativity and you can even share your creations via Messages with friends and family.

Get custom, helpful weather reports

The new Pixel Weather app uses AI to supplement traditional weather reporting so you get even more accurate forecasts, like when the rain is going to start and stop. Gemini Nano also generates a custom weather report so you don’t have to scroll through a bunch of numbers to get a sense of the day’s weather. Plus you can customize the app based on your needs — you can move the weather info that is most important to you like UV index or air quality index so you can easily see it without scrolling.

Get help creating new lists in Google Keep

Check out our new feature that helps you create lists in Google Keep. All you have to do is open Keep and have Gemini help you create a list for whatever it is you need, whether that’s your weekly grocery shopping trip for a family of four or a to-do list for your upcoming camping trip.

Easily recall information from screenshots

The new Pixel Screenshots2 app helps you save, organize and recall information from screenshots you’ve taken. For example, if you have a screenshot of a door code for an upcoming vacation stay but can't remember it when you arrive, you can simply ask Pixel Screenshots to quickly and easily find it for you.

Save important details from your phone calls

A new feature called Call Notes3 saves a private summary of your conversation after a phone call. So if you need information like an appointment time, an important address or a phone number to call back, turn on Call Notes and all the details and transcript will be available in the call log. To protect privacy, Call Notes runs fully on-device and everyone on the call will be notified if you have activated the feature.

Enjoy better, faster performance all-around

Google Tensor G4 is our fastest, most powerful chip yet. It’s custom-built for advanced AI like Gemini, and helps Pixel run quickly and smoothly — for example, browsing the web is 20% faster and launching apps 17% faster on average. Tensor G4 also makes Pixel more power-efficient for things like taking photos and videos as well as streaming YouTube content4!

Turn on Bedtime Mode — er, let Pixel Watch 3 do that itself

The latest Pixel Watch uses machine learning to automatically detect sleep and enable Bedtime Mode, which saves battery and turns off notifications as well as the always-on display for disruption free sleep. It uses this same technology to automatically detect when you wake up and exit Bedtime Mode.

Beat your best running times

With Pixel Watch 3 we are introducing our most accurate heart rate tracking for running yet5. After your run, Pixel Watch 3 helps you analyze and improve your running form. New advanced motion sensing combined with machine learning powers advanced running metrics that deliver a comprehensive analysis of the cadence of your steps, the length and height of your strides and your ground contact time. And with Fitbit Premium6, Google AI powers automatic daily run recommendations, which are tailored to your recovery and personalized to your previous runs as well as your goals and preferences.

Screen calls or hold calls from your wrist

With Pixel7 phones, Call Assist uses AI not only to screen spam calls but to wait on hold for you as well. Now, this same technology is available on Pixel Watch 3.

Enable Loss of Pulse Detection, for when every minute matters

Pixel Watch 3 introduces a first-of-its-kind feature — Loss of Pulse Detection — which detects loss-of-pulse events occuring when the heart suddenly stops beating. It’s a health emergency, where every minute matters. Loss of Pulse Detection uses an AI-based algorithm to bring together pulse and movement signals to confirm a loss of pulse event, and if so, triggers a check-in to see if you respond. If there’s no response, it can automatically place a call to emergency services and share an automated message with critical context, along with your location8. Loss of Pulse Detection will be available on Pixel Watch 3 in September starting in various countries in Europe.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

Enjoy twice as much noise cancellation

Pixel Buds Pro 2 feature a new chip specifically built for audio-processing: the Tensor A1 chip. This is the first time we’re expanding Google Tensor beyond phones and tablets. Tensor A1 powers our next-gen Active Noise Cancellation, which adapts to your environment up to 3 million times per second to cancel twice as much noise as our previous generation Pixel Buds Pro9.

Talk to Gemini, hands-free

With Pixel Buds Pro 2, you can get help from Gemini without taking out your phone10. Quickly find information from your emails, get walking directions and go Live with Gemini for brainstorming out loud, all hands-free11.
