How Google Ad Grants helps this nonprofit support Native American communities
Editor’s note: Today’s post is by Josh Arce, President & CEO of Partnership With Native Americans (PWNA), a nonprofit that uses Google Ad Grants to raise awareness of their work with Native American communities. Nonprofits can learn more and apply at google.com/grants to receive up to $10,000 per month in free Search ads.
Partnership With Native Americans (PWNA) serves a quarter of a million Native Americans each year. That support ranges from building capacity through leadership and job skills training, to providing immediate relief through food and water supply, emergency aid and health services. Our mission and vision is to serve immediate needs and support long-term solutions for strong, self-sufficient Tribal communities.
At PWNA, we’re continuously looking for ways to get the word out about our work. Raising awareness among our Tribal community partners can be a challenge — and doing so across the vast geographic areas we serve is an even greater obstacle. Google’s Ad Grants program for nonprofits has been enormously helpful in spreading the word. We’re able to set up advertisements for free that help us connect with Tribal members searching for resources like the ones we provide and raise general public awareness. It’s also allowed us to connect with donors: Ad Grants has helped us generate more than $800,000 in donations.
Donations help us operate our leadership and job skilling courses, which have supported some pretty incredible people — like Tyrone Thompson. Tyrone had a goal of starting his own farming business and supporting food sovereignty needs for Tribal communities. It was inspiring to see him gain confidence in networking throughout the training sessions — skills he used when applying for our community investment project to help him start his business. After graduating from the PWNA program, he invested in a 100-acre farm that now supports more than 35 families, and he runs a farming cooperative that provides jobs for other community members.
Tyrone's story is one of many that inspire us to do this work at PWNA. With Google's support, we’ll continue to drive visibility, maintain relevance and connect with more people who share our desire to empower Native American communities.
