How fashion designer Phillip Lim stays creative with his Pixel

Looking back on my 20 years in fashion, what's kept me relevant isn't chasing trends or reinventing myself — it's staying true to my mission of dressing the modern global citizen. In the fast-paced world of fashion, where style shifts quickly and inspiration strikes suddenly, technology is indispensable in keeping up with trends and reaching people. So I find myself relying often on my Pixel phone. Here are a few ways it’s become part of my creative process and one of the tools I use most.
Pixel's camera simplifies the busiest moments
During my recent New York Fashion Week show, I used Pixel to photograph tons of models and curate 51 looks for the runway. The Pixel camera delivers stunning, realistic images and I could edit them directly on the device and post them to social media on the spot. I’ve also used Pixel to do photo checks of the models to make sure everything looks right before they hit the runway — helping this intense moment flow smoothly and efficiently. Being able to get all this done with one device means I can spend more time doing what I love — designing.
Google Workspace apps connect our team and make sharing a snap
While my work remains deeply tactile — drawing by hand and feeling fabrics —technology enhances my creative process. It's about finding the perfect balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern efficiency. For example, I use Workspace tools to plan collections and map out styles — and with Google Drive, I can share massive images and even collect and store digital fabric swatches. And of course, Workspace allows me to collaborate with my partners in real time.
Gemini on my Pixel tackles the minutiae
Before anything hits the runway, I spend months if not years researching and looking for inspiration. With Gemini, I have an AI assistant on my phone that tackles the tedious parts of this process — for example, I can ask Gemini to research the newest trends or hottest colors. This gives me more time to focus on the meaningful aspects of my work — whether that's designing or speaking up about issues that matter to our community.
All of these tools allow me to express my creativity and connect with people better — and to me, that’s what technology should do. Ultimately I want to bring joy to people's lives through fashion — and my Pixel phone helps me do that.
