Congratulations to the 2025 Google Academic Research Award recipients

Google was built on a foundation of cutting-edge research, with a mission to make information universally accessible and useful. At Google.org, we extend that mission by addressing society’s biggest challenges through scientific advancement. One way we do this is through the Google Academic Research Awards (GARA), which support innovative computing and technology research that holds the potential to generate real-world applications.
Today, we’re announcing the 2025 GARA recipients. We are proud to support 56 projects led by 84 researchers across 12 countries who are working on cutting-edge projects aligned with Google’s commitments in responsible innovation. The 2025 research categories are:
- AI for Privacy, Safety, and Security, which focuses on work that leverages frontier AI models to improve digital safety, privacy and security
- Trust, Safety, Security, and Privacy Research, which centers on research to improve digital trust, safety, privacy and security across the online ecosystem
- Quantum Neuroscience, which recognizes proposals at the intersection of quantum effects and neural processes
Each GARA recipient will receive up to $100,000 USD in funding to support their work. In addition, awardees are paired with a Google research sponsor, providing a direct connection to our own research community and fostering long-term collaboration. We believe that by connecting academia and industry, we can accelerate the pace of discovery and its positive impact on the world.
Congratulations to all the 2025 GARA recipients. We're excited to see the transformative impact of this research and continue our support of the academic community. Visit goo.gle/gara to learn more about GARA and this year's recipients.
