Route 66 is one of the most iconic highways in the U.S., stretching 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, we’re rolling out two new ways to help you explore it, virtually or IRL.

  • Cruise the Mother Road from your couch: For the first time, when you search for “U.S. Route 66” on Maps, you’ll see the entire route mapped out on your Android or iOS device. You can also use Street View to see landmarks — including Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch in California and Cadillac Ranch in Texas — up close.
  • Map out your must-see stops: If you’ll be driving Route 66, check out our new shared list to find both well-known landmarks and hidden gems — in addition to the best local restaurants along the way.

Whether you're driving the route or exploring from home, Maps has you covered.

This Doodle celebrates a century of Route 66 connecting America from the Great Lakes to the West Coast.
