Building the agentic future: Developer highlights from I/O 2026
At Google I/O 2026, we’re accelerating the shift from prompts to action with the launch of Gemini 3.5 Flash. Combining frontier intelligence with incredible speed, 3.5 Flash outperforms Gemini 3.1 Pro across almost all benchmarks while running four times faster than other frontier models, providing the high-speed engine needed for real-world agentic workflows.
We’re putting these capabilities in your hands with the launch of a new Google Antigravity 2.0 desktop application, Managed Agents in the Gemini API and native Android vibe coding in Google AI Studio. Here are the highlights for developers building the agentic future.
The Google Antigravity Ecosystem
Google Antigravity is our agent-first development platform for developers to take an idea and turn it into a production-ready app. Today, we’re expanding the Antigravity ecosystem to manage and deploy agents that can integrate across key developer surfaces.
Here are the new ways to interact with Antigravity:
- Antigravity 2.0: A new standalone desktop application fully delivers on an agent-optimized experience. It acts as a central home for agent interaction, allowing you to orchestrate multiple agents to execute tasks in parallel. It also features dynamic subagents for parallelized workflows, scheduled tasks for background automation and ecosystem integrations across Google AI Studio, Android and Firebase.
- Antigravity CLI: For those who prefer to stay in the terminal, the Antigravity CLI delivers a lightweight, high-velocity product surface that lets you create new agents instantly without a graphical user interface. We encourage Gemini CLI users to migrate to Antigravity CLI.
- Antigravity SDK: Provides programmatic access to the same agent harness powering Google’s products. Optimized for our Gemini models, the SDK lets you define custom agent behaviors and host them on your infrastructure of choice.
- Antigravity in Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform: Simplifies enterprise workloads by allowing Google Cloud customers to connect Antigravity directly to Google Cloud projects.
- Google AI Ultra subscription, now starting at $100: We’re introducing a new $100/month AI Ultra plan designed to bring the frontier of intelligence into your workflow with a 5X higher usage limit in Google Antigravity than our Google AI Pro plan. For a limited time, we’re offering new and existing Google AI Ultra subscribers USD $100 in bonus credits for Antigravity that will kick in if you hit your plan’s quota limit — just claim the offer in your Antigravity app. The offer expires May 25, 2026. Terms apply.
Managed agents in the Gemini API
We’re introducing Managed Agents in the Gemini API. With a single API call, you can now spin up an agent that reasons, uses tools and executes code in an isolated Linux environment. Managed agents are powered by the Antigravity agent harness, built on Gemini 3.5 Flash and available via the Interactions API and in Google AI Studio.
- Antigravity agent harness: You get access to the same technology and infrastructure that powers our own agents. The harness is co-optimized with Gemini models, especially Gemini 3.5 Flash.
- Persistent, isolated environments: Each interaction creates an environment you can resume in follow-up calls with all files and state intact, enabling seamless multi-turn sessions.
- Define your own agents: Extend the Antigravity agent with custom instructions and skills using markdown files, and get started instantly with new custom agent templates in the Google AI Studio Playground.
Google AI Studio mobile and ecosystem integrations
Developers can use Google AI Studio, powered by the Antigravity coding agent, to bring their ideas to life using the latest Gemini models. Today we’re expanding where and how you can use it: Developers can use Google AI Studio, powered by the Antigravity coding agent, to bring their ideas to life using the latest Gemini models. Today we’re expanding where and how you can use it:
- Google AI Studio app: Available to pre-register this week, the new mobile app lets you capture an idea on the go and have a working prototype ready by the time you get to your desk.
- Workspace integration: Your agents can now natively call relevant Google Workspace APIs and embed them directly into your applications.
- Export to Antigravity: Through a new integration, you can bring entire projects from Google AI Studio to local development in Antigravity and production with a single click, including all of the context from your project so you can pick up where you left off.
- Native Android support: We’ve added an integration that allows you to build high-quality Android apps with just a prompt. We’re also introducing support for the Google Play Console in Google AI Studio for developers to publish apps directly to the test track.
The Build with Gemini XPRIZE Hackathon
We’re launching the Build with Gemini XPRIZE Hackathon, a global competition with a $2 million prize pool — the largest ever for a hackathon. Developers can build with Gemini across our models, tools and platforms to create real applications that solve some of the world's most pressing challenges, from reducing food waste to advancing scientific research. Finalists will pitch live at the Moonshot Gathering in Los Angeles this September to compete for the grand prize.
The leap from single-turn prompts to collaborative, always-on agents changes how developers build software — and we’re just getting started. Our goal is to make that shift easier for you. With the new Antigravity platform, Managed Agents in the Gemini API and expansions to Google AI Studio, we are removing infrastructure friction so you can focus on bringing your ideas to life.
